♦ At least 25 people have died in landslides and floods triggered by heavy rains in southwestern India, as rescuers scoured for survivors in muddy debris and the military flew in emergency supplies. Residents were cut off in parts of the coastal state of Kerala as the rains, which started to intensify from late Friday, swelled rivers and flooded roads.
♦ China has tested a new space capability with a hypersonic missile. A report said Beijing in August launched a nuclear-capable missile that circled the Earth at low orbit before descending toward its target, which three sources said it missed by over 20 miles (32 kilometres). China's progress on hypersonic weapons "caught US intelligence by surprise."
