Punjab police Monday decided to register a case and arrest the lawmakers involved in the torture of policemen during the Punjab Assembly session convened for the election of the new chief minister on April 16, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Sources privy to the development reveal that important arrests are likely within next 24 hours as the police have obtained the record of the CCTV footage from the Punjab Assembly and also identified the alleged perpetrators.
The police closely reviewed the videos of torture of policemen being circulated on social media.
Women parliamentarians are also among those who caused a rumpus in the Punjab Assembly apparently to further delay the election of the new chief minister.
Viral footage on social media shows Fayyazul Hassan Chohan, Umer Tanveer, Rana Shahbaz, Khayal Kastro, Hafiz Ammar Yasir, and Mahinder Pall Singh are among those who caused commotion in the hall of the Punjab Assembly.
Similarly, Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi, Nawab Zada Waseem, Taimoor, Saud, Momina Waheed, Zainab Umar, Shahida Ahmed, and Asia Amjad can also be seen in the footage.
A case has already been registered against the members who tortured the Punjab Assembly deputy speaker.
The deputy speaker had written a letter to the Punjab chief secretary and Inspector General of Police (IGP) and to deploy force on the floor after he was attacked.
