Punjab completes delimitation process for local govt polls

A major development has taken place in Punjab regarding the upcoming local government elections, as the delimitation process across the province has been completed.

According to sources, the record of the completed delimitations has been sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), marking an important step towards holding local government elections in the province.

The delimitation process began on April 20, 2026, during which citizens submitted more than 150 objections to the proposed boundaries.

In Lahore, a total of 433 Union Councils have been established under the new delimitation. These include 72 in Shalimar Town, 52 in Ravi Town, 25 in Wagah Town and 37 in Allama Iqbal Town.

Similarly, 69 Union Councils have been created in City Town, 32 in Raiwind, 77 in Model Town, 40 in Nishtar Town and 29 in Saddar.

According to the available record, Lahore had 274 Union Councils in 2015. The number has now increased to 433 under the latest delimitation.

With the delimitation record now submitted to the ECP, Punjab has completed another major stage in the process leading to the local government elections.
