PTI, TTAP end sit-in at Islamabad’s Red Zone

PTI and the Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP), an alliance of opposition parties, on Wednesday announced an end to the sit-in they had staged in Red Zone Islamabad to register protest against the health issues former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan is facing at Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi as revealed in a report submitted by PTI lawyer Salman Safdar to the Supreme Court (SC), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Speaking outside the Supreme Court building, KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said that Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Leader of the Opposition in Senate Allama Raja Nasir Abbas had been authorized to either go for a protest or negotiations. “Our leadership decided to stage a sit-in; we followed its directions,” he said, adding, “Today, the leadership has decided to end the sit-in. So, we have also decided to wind it up.”

Allama Raja Nasir Abbas said that the situation was alarming when the report disclosed that only 15 per cent vision had been left in Imran’s right eye. “When the former prime minister had complained about his eye problem several weeks ago, then why was he not treated on time?” he questioned.

He said it was a criminal act as not only the PTI founder’s family, but the entire nation was worried.

Opposition leader in Senate further said that a sit-in was staged at Parliament House under the auspices of TTAP. “Similar sit-ins were staged at Parliament Lodges and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House,” Abbas said, adding that the police started registering cases against the PTI and TTAP leaders.

“Achakzai sab even threatened to go on a hunger strike,” he said, adding that now when the holy month of Ramadan was about to start, the PTI and the TTAP announce an end to the sit-in. “We will now decide the next course of action,” he announced.
