Voting for by-election in PS-52, Umerkot gathers pace

Polling for the by-election on PS-52, Umerkot seat, which had fallen vacant on account of the death of Pir Ali Mardan Shah, has gathered pace as both men and women, young and old, are heading to the polling stations, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

However, not much enthusiasm is being witnessed at some of the polling stations.

The voting will continue till 5pm (on Monday evening) without any break.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has fielded Syed Ameer Ali Shah as its candidate, while former Sindh chief minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim is Grand Democratic Alliance’s (GDA) candidate in the constituency.

Arbab enjoys the support of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P).

The constituency consists of several parts of the Thar desert.
