Lahore and Karachi swelter while rain predicted in Islamabad

Large parts of Pakistan remained under intense heat, with high temperatures recorded in major cities, including Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi, while rain was forecast for northern regions of the country on Monday.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, temperatures in Lahore were expected to rise to 42 degrees Celsius, with hot and dry weather continuing throughout the day.

The Met Office said winds in Lahore City were recorded at around seven kilometres per hour, while humidity levels remained close to 42 per cent under clear skies.

The Met Office said most districts of Punjab would also remain under severe heat conditions.

In Islamabad, warm weather persisted during the day, with temperatures expected to reach around 40 degrees Celsius. However, the weather department predicted rainfall in the federal capital during the night.

Winds in the city were recorded at approximately nine kilometres per hour.

Meanwhile, Karachi continued to experience hot and humid conditions, with temperatures likely to rise to 37 degrees Celsius.

Humidity in the coastal city was recorded at 72 per cent, while south-westerly winds were blowing at around 19 kilometres per hour.

Officials said intermittent strong winds were expected across the coastal city during the day while Karachi’s air quality remained satisfactory, with particulate matter levels staying below 100 particles per cubic metre.

The Met Office further forecast thunderstorms and rainfall in parts of Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and the upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
