The Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) will continue backing journalists in their just struggle for media freedom, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Friday.
Free media is a must for democracy, the former Punjab law minister said during a press conference. He said the party would welcome the participants of the long march against the proposed Pakistan Media Development Authority (PMDA) throughout the country.
The PML-N leadership will join the marchers in Lahore, he said, adding that the authorities introduced the proposed bill after they failed to control the media by hurling threats.
For the cause, concerted efforts are needed as a government never let the journalists go for freedom of speech, he said, adding that the journalists have to fight for their rights and his party will stand by them in need of the hour.
The government wanted media muzzled just to gain its personal targets, he said. He mentioned the names of the journalists who have been bearing the brunt of raising voice against oppression.
Taking a jibe at PM Imran Khan, Sana said that the 'selected gang' is destroying Pakistan. The decision of New Zealand authorities to cancel the tour of Pakistan brought shame to the country because of the pathetic policies of the government, he said.
