December 19, 2020 02:02 AM

A poisonous gas suffocated one person to death in the Kemari Town in Karachi and sent dozens of others to hospital on Friday.

At least 15 people were taken to hospital with breathing problems and one of them breathed his last at Karachi’s Ziauddin Hospital after a poisonous gas spread in the Kemari area, which is located near the Karachi port.

According to witnesses, some ships carrying soybean and crinkle were anchored at the port. Ships carrying crinkle were anchored at berth two, three and five, while ships carrying soybean were anchored at berth 11 and 12.

A mysterious smell spread in the area before people started complaining about breathing problems. There are reports that all soybean and crinkle laden ships were offloaded simultaneously, adding pollution to the already polluted air in the Kemari area.

A few months ago, poisonous gas had killed around one dozen people in the Kemari Town.
