Cabinet constitutes committee to probe Broadsheet matter

The Federal Cabinet has constituted a committee to investigate the Broadsheet matter and fix the responsibility on those who illegally benefitted themselves.

This was announced by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz during a press conference in Islamabad on Tuesday along with Minister for Science Fawad Chaudhary and Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari.

Faraz said the committee will be comprised of a former judge of High Court or Supreme Court, a senior officer from FIA, Attorney General Office, a senior lawyer and any officer nominated by the Prime Minister.

He said the ToRs of the committee have been formulated according to which it will complete the investigation within 45 days.

Faraz said in light of the committee's recommendations strict action will be taken against the culprits who looted the national exchequer. He said Broadsheet case is based on facts revealing the corruption stories of previous rulers.

Commenting on PDM's protest in front of Election Commission Office, Shibli Faraz expressed gratitude to the people of twin cities for rejecting the narrative of opposition.

Fawad Chaudhary on the occasion said Broadsheet was registered in 1999 during Pervez Musharraf era, helped the then government and the newly established NAB to track down foreign assets purchased by Pakistanis through ill-gotten wealth.

Detailing the agreement with the Broadsheet, Fawad Ch said two persons namely Ghazanfar Malik and Tariq had met with NAB’s first head General Amjad and proposed to help NAB unearth the foreign properties of Pakistanis for a share of 20percent in the recoveries.

“General Amjad felt the suggestion a viable one and visited America where at the office of a company, Trove, he had been given a detailed briefing in this regard and after agreeing an agreement was signed with the Trove company.”

Fawad said after the agreement the Trove company further established two companies Broadsheet and IRA for the purpose.

Then Broadsheet took the help of Matrix company for finding the properties in the foreign countries.

“However, after General Amjad’s departure, General Khalid Maqbool did not initiate any proceedings in this regard and thus the agreement had become defunct.

He said Broadsheet was assigned to search illegal assets of Pakistanis in Asia, America and Europe. He said the company exposed the illegal properties of Sharif family in different countries.

He also took a jibe on Maryam Nawaz saying Sharif family has become an artist and turned the corruption into the art.

Commenting on Fazl, he said Fazl was suffering from loneliness and it is evident from his speech and statement that he was accepting that people would consider him a caliph but after recieveing no such response he has become evidently frustrated and needed a thorough medical check up to com out of this frustration.

Shireen Mazari said the inquiry committee to investigate the Broadsheet matter has been empowered to produce any officer or document from any institute so that responsibility could be fixed.
