Actor Rana Aftab gunned down by unknown assailants

Famous television and film actor Rana Aftab was shot dead by unknown assailants in Lahore on Monday, police said.

He was 63.

According to initial reports, Rana Aftab had just left Park View City when unknown persons opened fire on him, shooting him in the chest.

He died on the spot due to critical injuries.

Police said his body has been shifted to a hospital for postmortem examination, while legal proceedings have been initiated.

Investigators are working to determine the motive behind the killing, and no arrests have been made so far.

Time and venue for his funeral prayers have not been announced yet.

Apart from his acting career, Rana Aftab served as an excise officer before retiring a few years ago. He was widely recognized for his performances in television dramas and films, particularly for portraying authoritative characters such as judges and lawyers.

He appeared in several popular TV dramas, including Lal Andhi, Log, Rakhwala and Ek Mohabbat Azmaish, and performed numerous roles in PTV’s Punjabi productions.

In cinema, Rana Aftab featured in films such as Aman Ke Rakhwale, Wehshi Gujjar, Miss Italy, Madam Charlie, Sher-e-Lahore and Qabza Group.

His sudden death has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, with colleagues and fans expressing grief over the loss of a versatile and talented actor.
