The Federal Cabinet constituted a cabinet committee which will forward its recommendations regarding printing of the new designs of the currency notes, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

The Committee will give its recommendations regarding the printing of the new currency notes and will indicate whether the material used in the production of the new notes is safe for human consumption.

The banknotes of the new design, having denominations of one hundred, five hundred, one thousand, and five thousand rupees, will be introduced, and more improved security threads will be used in the new currency notes.

One of the most significant aspects of this initiative is the involvement of international currency design experts. These experts are assisting Pakistani authorities in developing banknotes that match modern global standards in both design and security.

The new designs will feature:

* Advanced security threads

* Improved anti-counterfeiting elements

* Better ink and paper technology

* Enhanced durability for longer circulation life

These upgrades aim to reduce the risk of counterfeit currency while increasing public confidence in cash transactions.

Earlier on January 17, 2026, the federal government officially approved the printing of four redesigned currency notes in Pakistan, marking a major step toward modernising the country’s paper currency system.

The decision was taken after formal approval from the federal cabinet, which met in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Shehbaz Sharif.

The move is part of a broader effort to improve currency security, visual identity, and durability, while also aligning Pakistan’s banknotes with global best practices.

Lower denominations and coins are not part of the current phase. Officials indicate that future changes, if any, will be considered separately.
