Philippines hit by typhoon Ramil as thousands evacuate

Typhoon Ramil has made landfall on the coastal regions of the Philippines, bringing with it powerful winds and torrential rains that have severely disrupted daily life, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.

According to local authorities, nearly 27,000 people have been evacuated to safer locations due to worsening weather conditions.

The Philippine Meteorological Department has issued an alert warning of sea waves rising as high as six feet, further escalating the risk of flooding in low-lying areas, media reports say.

Widespread power outages have paralysed transport, with several flights and ferry services either delayed or cancelled.

Emergency rescue teams have been placed on high alert in anticipation of further disruptions, and residents have been strictly advised to stay away from coastal zones.

Authorities continue to monitor the storm’s trajectory and its potential impact on vulnerable communities across the region.
