Four killed, one injured in bus-car collision in Bangladesh

Four people were killed and another critically injured when a passenger bus collided with a private car in Gajaria upazila of Bangladesh’s Munshiganj district on Saturday, reported 24NewsHD TV.

The accident occurred around 2:38pm near Jamaldi Bus Stand on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway.

According to the Fire Service, a Chattogram-bound New Baleshwar Paribahan bus collided with a Dhaka-bound private car carrying five people, including the driver. The passengers were returning to Dhaka after having a meal at Miami Restaurant. 

The deceased were identified as Mujibur Rahman, 55, Shamima Akter, 45, Sabiha Chowdhury, 43, and private car driver Sohel. The three passengers were residents of Dhaka’s Gandaria.

Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, deputy assistant director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, said two rescue units from Gajaria Fire Station reached the scene after receiving information about the accident.

Firefighters recovered the driver’s body from the wrecked car and handed it over to highway police.

The remaining four passengers were rescued and taken to hospital, where doctors declared three of them dead. The fifth passenger was shifted to Dhaka in critical condition for advanced medical treatment.
