Normalcy returning to Jaranwala: IGP

Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar has said normalcy is returning to Jaranwlaa and the writ of the government will be established at all costs

“Many Christian families have returned to their homes,” the provincial police chief said, adding that the Punjab Police shifted their children and families to Danish School while the restoration work is in full swing.

“We guarantee all the Christian families that there is no need to panic.”

Dr  Usman  Anwar said more than 6,500 lawmen stand alert to guard the Christians and the process of reconciliation and reconstruction is going on.

Members of the peace committee, scholars, Christian leaders and priests all are one, he said.

He reiterated the resolve to maintain merit and ensure a transparent probe into the tragedy.

A mob burnt churches and houses in Jaranwala a few days ago.

According to residents and community leaders that the mob dragged belongings from Christians' houses and set them on fire.

People from various walks of life showed solidarity with the Christians while the authorities sprang into action to put an end to such acts by giving exemplary punishment to the mobsters.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwa ul Haq Kakar said that minorities had to be protected at all costs, promising to take action against those involved in violence.

Police said they have so far rounded up 128 people involved in the mob attack.
