Boating in Islamabad’s Rawal Dam Lake continued despite mechanical and motorboats are banned amid contaminated water spread fears, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
The district administration on Saturday put a ban on mechanical and motorboats under Section 144 for a period of two months due to fears of contamination of the dam water.
Residents often make way to the dams and nullahs for picnics and recreational activities like boating.
The TV channel reported that there was no mechanism to clean the litter in the Rawal Dam water.
In August this year, Islamabad Deputy Commissioner banned boating in the Rawal Dam for two months after it was declared “extremely dangerous” for visitors amid seasonal rains.
The Rawal Lake is an artificial reservoir that provides the water needs for the cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Korang River along with some other small streams coming from Margalla Hills have been set to form this artificial lake which covers an area of 8.8 km.
Rawal Lake is located within an isolated section of the Village Malpur, Bani Gala and Margalla Hills National Park.
