Four undertrial prisoners escape from Lahore Cantt Courts lock-up

Four undertrial prisoners escaped from the judicial lock-up at the Cantt Courts after allegedly breaking a metal grille, exposing serious security lapses at the court complex, police sources said.

The accused had been brought from Camp Jail for court appearances when they escaped from the bakhshi khana, the temporary lock-up used to hold prisoners during hearings.

Police sources said the prisoners broke the grille and fled the premises. They alleged that the relevant police officials failed to respond promptly despite receiving information about the escape.

One of the four accused was later recaptured, while three remained at large.

DIG Operations Muhammad Faisal Kamran took notice of the incident and ordered an inquiry into the security breach.

Police teams were formed to trace and arrest the remaining fugitives.

The DIG sought a detailed inquiry report and said further legal and departmental action would be taken after responsibility for the lapse was determined.
