Khyber Pakhtunkhwa changes school timings amid severe heatwave

Amid an ongoing severe heatwave, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Department has announced a change in school timings across the province to safeguard the health and well-being of students.

According to an official statement issued on Tuesday, the revised schedule will be implemented immediately in all government and private schools.

The move comes as daytime temperatures continue to soar across the region, prompting concerns about student safety and classroom conditions.

Under the new schedule, schools will open at 7:15 am. Teaching hours for primary schools will run from 7:15 am to 11:40 am, while middle and high schools will conduct classes until 12:15 pm.

The Education Department emphasised that the decision has been taken in light of the intense heatwave conditions, with the primary aim of ensuring the comfort and health of students. The department also urged school administrations to comply with the revised timings strictly and make necessary adjustments to ensure a safe learning environment during extreme weather.

The change in academic hours is expected to remain in effect until the summer vacation.
