PTI’s Ali Zafar condemns arrests ahead of Sep 27 protest

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Senator Barrister Ali Zafar has strongly criticised the arrests of party leaders, parliamentarians and workers in different parts of the country ahead of the party’s planned September 27 protest march, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Ali Zafar condemned the reported arrests of PTI workers and leaders, including Shayan Bashir in Lahore and National Assembly member Mian Ghaus in Islamabad. Reports on Sunday also said several other PTI lawmakers and leaders had been detained in the capital.

Ali Zafar claimed that the arrests were being made because of concerns over the September 27 peaceful protest, and warned that such actions could further increase political tensions.

He said peaceful protest for political and constitutional rights, as well as raising a voice in support of the party’s leadership, was a legal and constitutional right of a political party and its workers.

The senator said the use of state power to prevent peaceful protests would be harmful for the country and called for political issues to be resolved through constitutional and democratic means.

The PTI has announced a protest march towards Islamabad for September 27, with the release of party founder Imran Khan among its demands.
