Punjab urges citizens to turn kitchen waste into compost and earn rewards
Offers earn Rs30,000 under Green Credit Programme
The Punjab government has urged citizens to stop throwing kitchen waste into the garbage and instead turn it into compost to help keep the environment clean and earn rewards under the Chief Minister Punjab Green Credit Programme, 24News HD TV reported on Sunday.
In a message issued on the occasion of World Cleanup Day, the government encouraged people to make useful compost from organic kitchen waste, including fruit and vegetable peels, eggshells, and other biodegradable material, instead of mixing it with regular household garbage.
According to the programme, citizens who properly collect kitchen waste at home and turn it into compost can earn three Green Credits, equivalent to Rs30,000.
The government said composting can help reduce the amount of household waste while producing a useful natural material that can be used for plants, gardens and other gardening activities.
The Green Credit Programme aims to encourage citizens to take part in environmentally friendly activities and adopt simple practices that can contribute to a cleaner and greener Punjab.
Highlighting the concept of “Kitchen Waste, Compost and Greener Punjab,” the government said small environment-friendly steps in daily life can make an important contribution towards building a cleaner and healthier society.
