Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has shed light on lawyers’ role for supremacy of law.

“Lawyers play a pivotal part for providing people with justice,” he said while talking to a delegation of lawyers on Friday.

The delegates, including Punjab Bar Council Vice-Chairman Ch Akram, Additional AGP Asif Mehmood, Ch Sarwar and Ali Riaz Kirmani, sought Parvez help in lawyers’ welfare stalled .

Ch Akram recalled Parvez’s endeavours for betterment of legal community in his tenure as the provincial chief minister, saying: “As Punjab CM, you got constructed Punjab Bar Council building and approved free medical facilities for lawyers. But I need to say regretfully, nothing has been in this connection.”

The PA speaker assured the lawyers of playing his role to get such issues resolved at the earliest. 

Also, PA Speaker Parvez telephoned a Pakistan woman Salma Zahid and greeted her on being elected Canadian Standing Committee for Citizenship and Immigration Chairperson.

“Such expatriates uphold Pakistan’s prestige abroad,” Parvez said and hoped she would do her best to serve the people. Salma enquired after ex-PM Ch Shujaat Hussain and hinted at a visit to Pakistan. She also praised Muslim League Canada President Ghaus Dar.
