Madonna makes acting comeback after 20 years

After a two decade hiatus from acting, Madonna has returned to the screen with a guest role in Seth Rogen’s Apple TV+ series The Studio, filming in Venice, Italy.

Her comeback comes following the death of co-star Catherine O’Hara, a key member of the show’s ensemble.

Madonna, 67, has made a surprising return to acting, appearing on the set of Seth Rogen’s The Studio in Venice this week.

The pop superstar, whose last live action role was in 2003 and voice work in 2006’s Arthur and the Invisibles, was seen rehearsing on a gondola, teasing the project on Instagram under the caption “The Italian Job.”

The Apple TV+ series, co-created by Rogen, follows a fictional studio chief navigating the chaos of Hollywood.

Its cast includes Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, and Kathryn Hahn.

 

Catherine O’Hara, a beloved comedy icon, had been a regular before her death in January at 71, following a private battle with cancer.

Madonna’s guest appearance is a notable addition, honoring the series while stepping into a medium she left behind over twenty years ago.

Madonna first achieved cinematic fame with Desperately Seeking Susan (1985), later starring in films such as Dick Tracy (1990) and Penny Marshall’s A League of Their Own (1992).

Her acclaimed performance as Eva Peron in Evita (1995) won her a Golden Globe, and the song “You Must Love Me” earned an Academy Award.

Despite some criticism from stage veterans, Madonna has remained a cultural icon, balancing her music career with selective acting projects.

During her Venice visit, Madonna was spotted boarding a water taxi, dressed in a puffer coat with a bandaged hand, carrying her purse and Louis Vuitton hat.

Fans and media alike are eager to see how she adapts to acting once more, blending her star power with a comedic series alongside Rogen’s ensemble.
