Pakistan, Germany sign €40.5 million technical cooperation agreement

Pakistan and Germany have signed a €40.5 million technical cooperation agreement aimed at launching nine new development projects with the support of the German Development Bank, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

The ministry said the agreement would expand cooperation between the two countries in key sectors including climate change, social protection and renewable energy.

Under the agreement, nine new development projects will be initiated with financial and technical support from the German Development Bank, also known as KfW.

Secretary for Economic Affairs Muhammad Hameer Karim signed the agreement on behalf of Pakistan, while German Ambassador Anna Lieppel signed on behalf of the German government.

The statement said the agreement would further strengthen bilateral development cooperation in important sectors and deepen long-standing ties between the two countries.

Muhammad Hameer Karim appreciated the continued support of the German government and KfW, adding that with the latest agreement, the bilateral development portfolio between Pakistan and Germany had reached approximately €550 million.

Ambassador Anna Lieppel said Germany attached great importance to its long-standing partnership with Pakistan and remained committed to supporting initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable and inclusive development.

She said the agreement reflected the shared commitment of both countries to strengthening cooperation and added that the projects to be launched under the agreement would provide meaningful benefits to communities across Pakistan.
