Pakistan, France discuss bilateral ties, Palestine and regional situation in New York

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ishaq Dar, met French Foreign Minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Foreign Office spokesperson said on Monday.

According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, Sajjad Haider Khan, the two states discussed Pakistan-France bilateral relations as well as regional and global developments. 

Ishaq Dar expressed Pakistan’s desire to further strengthen ties with France, with emphasis on enhancing political relations, trade and investment, educational links, and people-to-people contacts. 

The deputy prime minister appreciated France’s efforts to advance the two-state solution and welcomed its decision to restrict imports of goods from Israeli settlements.

Both sides stressed that the Palestine issue must remain on the global agenda and underscored the need for continued international efforts toward a just, sustainable and comprehensive solution.

The two foreign ministers also discussed the situation in Iran and highlighted the importance of diplomatic engagement and regional efforts to address the crisis.

They emphasized the implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, as well as ensuring the safety of maritime traffic, freedom of movement, and uninterrupted energy supplies, noting the broader economic impact of such disruptions. 

The French foreign minister appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts for peace and stability in the region. Pakistan and France also agreed on the importance of using regional forums to address regional challenges and promote dialogue.

The two sides agreed to maintain close contact on bilateral and regional matters.
