Federal Minister for Planning and Development and Reforms Asad Umar has said that the government would spend Rs10 billion for a digital census in the country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The federal minister, in an interview, laid great emphasis on the importance of the census using modern technology for the error-free process.
He also gave reference to the 1971 Constitution of Pakistan which clearly mentions the need for a census after every 10 years.
“But here, we carry out census after 18 to 20 years even in this age of digitalization,” he lamented and added that the central government would collaborate with provinces for carrying out census using modern technology.
Asad Umar reiterated that funds worth Rs10 billion would be spared for the purchase of hardware and software for the digital census, and adding that Pakistan Army would also provide its services for a transparent and secure census.
