546 lives lost in Bangladesh roads in January, 37pc were bike-related accidents: report 

A horrific picture of road accidents has emerged in Bangladesh in the outgoing month of January. 546 people were killed and 1,204 people were injured in 552 road accidents throughout the month. Of these, the highest number of deaths and accidents occurred with motorcycles. About 37.86 percent of the total accidents were motorcycle accidents.
This information was given in the annual monitoring report of the Accident Monitoring Cell of the Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association on Sunday. 
The report said that the most accidents occurred in Dhaka division in January. There, 133 people were killed and 328 were injured in 132 accidents. On the other hand, the least accidents occurred in Sylhet division; 28 people were killed in 29 accidents.
In terms of the type of vehicle involved in accidents, motorcycles are at the top as always (28.46 percent).  Next are trucks-pickups and lorries (23.64 percent), buses (14.35 percent), battery-powered rickshaws and easy bikes (13.63 percent) and CNG-powered auto-rickshaws (5.54 percent).
People from various professions are among the deceased.

According to statistics, 127 drivers, 89 pedestrians, 54 women, 48 children, 57 students, 21 transport workers and 8 teachers lost their lives. Apart from this, 5 members of the law enforcement agencies and 4 doctors also joined the procession.
