Former prime minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain announced he won’t support the PTI chief Imran Khan-backed candidate for CM. Hamza and Parvez Elahi were in the run. Hamza was backed by the coalition government while Parvez was the nominee of the PTI and PML-Q alliance.
“Ch Shujaat is a seasoned politician. He has been a champion of solutions to problems through negotiations. He has been stressing the need for joining hands to cope with the challenges being faced by the country,” the interior minister added.
Hamza regained his CM seat as the PML-Q chief’s letter made the Punjab Assembly deputy speaker reject the votes of his party lawmakers.
The minister said ex-president Asif Ali Zardari’s efforts for mustering support for Hamza would be remembered.
Zardari held a series of meeting with Ch Shujaat Hussain and remained in contact with former premier Nawaz Sharif in London.
Sanaullah said the coalition government has been struggling to get the state out of the crisis as joint efforts are need of the hour.
