China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Authority Chairman Asim Saleem Bajwa condoled the death of Begum Shamim Akhtar, mother of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif, on Sunday. 

In a tweet, Bajwa wrote, “Deepest condolences on the sad demise of Begum Shamim Akhtar, mother of Mian Nawaz Sharif & Mian Shahbaz Sharif. May Allah bless her and rest her soul in eternal peace!.”

PML-N leader Attaullah Tarrar announced the death of Begum Shamim Akhtar in a tweet. He also said Shehbaz’s son Suleman Shehbaz telephoned him and told him that arrangements were being made to take his grandmother’s body to Lahore for burial. According to PML-N sources in London, Begum Shamim’s health deteriorated four days ago.
