Anti-smog drive in Punjab, 153 arrested on violations

During the anti-smog drive in Punjab, Police have arrested 153 accused of crop residues and burning tires, reported 24NewsHD TV on Monday.
The report also said that as many as 225 cases have also been registered in different areas of Punjab for carrying out anti-smog activities from people.
On the direction of Inspector General Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan, action has been intensified against anti-environmental activities which lead to smog.
IG said those who spread air pollution by burning crop residues do not deserve leniency.
IG has directed the police officers to take joint action with the district administration and agencies to take all possible steps to contain smog.
The officers are carrying out operations against the burning of crop residues and burning of tires.
It is pertinent to mention that on the direction of Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar, Relief Commissioner Punjab Babar Hayat Tarar has issued a notification that schools in the Lahore metropolitan corporation limits to remain closed on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
The notification would be implemented from November 27 to January 15.
