Mystery shrouds on why the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) has proceeded on three days’ leave despite the fact that Umer Sheikh has not assigned any reason for his leave application. The abrupt departure from the scene also triggered a storm of rumours that the CCPO is being transferred.
As from the date of his appointment, Mr Sheikh has been surrounded by controversies.
The uncalled for attitude of the Lahore police chief has created difficulties for the Punjab government because the senior officers have either sought a transfer to other district or expressed their desire to proceed on leave since they are not willing to serve under such a stiff-necked police chief.
Some senior police officers have lodged formal complaints against Mr Sheikh’s abusive and foul language which according to them was causing serious disciplinary issues in the ranks and files of the department. They are of the view that Karachi-like situation can emerge if Mr Sheikh did not change his attitude. They have alleged that Mr Sheikh often bypasses the Chief Minister’s Secretariat orders.
According to reports of the directorate of Intelligence Bureau, Mr Sheikh has a bad reputation as a senior police officer and there were complaints against him for corruption and violation of police rules. Such reports are part of the record. Such a record earned Mr Sheikh bad ACRs, informed sources confided to 24NewsHD.tv.
A comprehensive report based on above-stated facts has since been sent to Prime Minister Imran Khan who is believed to be a force behind Mr Sheikh’s appointment as Lahore police chief.
At the outset of his appointment, Mr Sheikh addressed senior police officers of the Metropolis and advised them to obey orders of the Inspector General of Police without getting them cleared by him. This attitude of the CCPO sent ripples in the ranks and files of the Lahore police.
This issue of his insubordination was still hot when he misbehaved against all professional norms and raised questions to a victim lady who was gang-raped at the Lahore Motorway near Koral Ghati locality. Instead of sympathizing with her, Mr Sheikh expressed his anger and remarked why did she leave Lahore for Gujranwala after midnight and why had she taken this route instead of getting on to Motorway via Thokar Niaz Beg?
The latest episode of his use of foul language was with Naila, a complainant whose husband has been arrested on a fake pretext. Mr Sheikh used foul language against the lady by hurling abuses.
According to informed sources, there is a strong possibility that the CCPO might be transferred and a competent officer is assigned the job in the near future.
