K-Electric has also submitted an application to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) to increase the electricity tariff by 97 paisas per unit, reported 24NewHD TV channel on Wednesday.
Nepra has received the K-electric application and the authority will review the request in its September 29 meeting.
Karachiites will bear the cost of the increase in electricity rate and will have to pay an extra Rs1.70 billion.
K-electric submitted the application in August.
A day earlier, the Central Power Purchasing Company (CPPC) has also sent an application to the NEPRA for increasing the electricity tariff by Rs2.07 per unit under the fuel adjustment price arguing the increase in tariff was due to a surge in diesel and furnace oil prices.
The Nepra said the authority will hear about the CPPC application on September 30th. If approved, the consumers will have to bear an additional Rs25 billion.
