Cardi B speaks about childbirth struggles
Cardi B is opening up about the raw realities of motherhood while promoting her upcoming album — and the Bronx-born superstar didn’t hold back when discussing childbirth during a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club.
The 32-year-old rapper, who is currently expecting her fourth child and first with NFL star boyfriend Stefon Diggs, reflected on her past deliveries, including the physical toll they took on her body.
“My second baby, he’s too big — he broke me,” Cardi said of giving birth to her now four-year-old son Wave. She went on to reveal that her first delivery with daughter Kulture, now seven, also came with complications. “The first one, I had to stitch,” she confessed, before clarifying to a stunned co-host that she was referring to her vagina.
The WAP hitmaker, born Belcalis Almánzar, explained that giving birth left her body permanently changed, but also made her more resilient. “Now things are just a little different and I’m more experienced,” she said, noting that with three children behind her, she’s entering her fourth pregnancy with greater confidence.
Cardi also described how staying active helped with her most recent birth. After welcoming her one-year-old daughter Blossom, she credited regular workouts during her third pregnancy with speeding up recovery. “The third one was so easy, so I’m expecting this one to be as easy as well, in the name of the Lord. That’s why I’m like, ‘I just did it last year. I can do it [again],’” she said with a laugh.
The Grammy-winning rapper officially confirmed her pregnancy last Wednesday in an interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings, ending months of speculation. “I’m excited, I’m happy, I feel like I’m in a good space,” Cardi said. Addressing the rumors that swirled before she made her announcement, she added: “I felt like, ‘Can I just say it on my own time?’ I’m not hiding.”
Cardi shares Kulture, Wave, and Blossom with her estranged husband Offset, 33, from whom she separated in 2023. Despite the split, she has continued to co-parent with the Migos rapper, while moving forward with her relationship with Diggs, 31.
During her Breakfast Club interview, Cardi also spoke about preparing for her upcoming tour while pregnant, admitting that balancing high-energy performances with the demands of motherhood is no easy feat. Still, she expressed optimism that her experience will help her manage the challenges ahead.
“This is my fourth rodeo,” Cardi declared. “I know what to expect now. I just gotta keep myself healthy, stay moving, and trust that God got me.”
With her new album set for release later this year and a baby on the way, Cardi B is entering a new chapter that blends career milestones with personal transformation.
