PTI leaders slam recent convictions as 'political revenge,' call verdicts part of a conspiracy

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Aaliya Hamza and Barrister Ali Zafar have strongly condemned the recent court verdicts against party members, terming them a product of political vengeance and a broader conspiracy to silence dissent.

Addressing a press conference at Parliament House, Aaliya Hamza questioned the role of the state and its institutions in what she described as a deliberate targeting of PTI.

“The rulers must be asked: did they know a conspiracy was being hatched? Why didn’t the security agencies stop it? If there was a real threat, why wasn’t it foiled earlier?” she asked.

Hamza further claimed that the legal cases being pursued are not about justice but about loyalty to PTI founder Imran Khan.

“The courts have been weaponised. They’re trying to brand us as terrorists. Does the state really believe the public supports terrorism?” she said, criticising what she called a "hybrid system" being imposed on the country.

She lamented that PTI's access to legal recourse has been cut off. “The doors of the courts have been shut on us. Our lawyers are not even being allowed to sign legal documents. It's a clear message: Khan and his allies must remain in jail—no matter what.”

Echoing her concerns, Barrister Ali Zafar also blasted the recent verdicts, calling them “a gross miscarriage of justice” and “a political decision, not a legal one.” He described the entire case as “a setup built on shaky ground,” claiming that the prosecution presented only two questionable witnesses. “One was supposedly behind a sofa, and the other under a table. That’s the level of credibility we’re talking about. No video evidence, no solid proof.”

Zafar added that the convictions have hurt the credibility of the judiciary and vowed that PTI would continue its legal battle. “Pakistan is being turned into a land without a constitution. But the High Court and Supreme Court are still there—and no higher judiciary will uphold these sentences based on such a record.”
