Internet services begin phased restoration in Mirpur

Internet services in Mirpur district and surrounding areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir have begun to be restored in phases after a prolonged shutdown, bringing relief to residents, students, businesses and freelancers, reported 24NewshD TV channel Thursday.

Social media platforms and other online services have been partially restored in several areas, although users in some localities continue to report slow speeds and limited connectivity.

The business community welcomed the restoration, saying the shutdown had disrupted commercial activities, banking services, e-commerce and online transactions. Traders expressed hope that economic activity would regain momentum as connectivity improved.

Students also regained access to online classes, educational resources and assignment portals, while freelancers and people working in the information technology sector described the restoration as a major relief.

Residents said the prolonged suspension of internet services had severely affected daily life and urged the government to ensure uninterrupted connectivity in the future.

The local administration said services were being restored gradually and that full internet access would soon be available across the district.

Earlier, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said reports indicated that internet and digital communications would soon be restored in Mirpur.

He expressed gratitude for the efforts of the AJK chapter of the PPP and the timely intervention of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission.

Bilawal also voiced hope that requests for the restoration of internet services in Muzaffarabad and other parts of Azad Kashmir would be approved soon, allowing residents to regain full access to communication facilities.
