Another 500 Steel Mills workers shown the door

Pakistan Steel Mills administration has terminated services of another 500 employees belonging to the Medical and Education Department of the mills, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
The TV channel reported that preparations are also being made to close the Medical and Education Department of Steel Mills.
PSM Interim Deputy Manager Riaz Hussain wrote a letter in which he maintained that the mill has been facing losses for the last few years and production was completely shut down since June 2015.
“Steel mills faced a loss of Rs212 billion till 30 June 2020 and hefty funds needed to resume the operations at least for two years. The mill has decided to downgrade its number of employees,” he wrote in the letter.
All 500 employees were forcibly retired and they will get their salaries till March 2021.
All these terminated contract employees and daily wagers will get their due salaries from the date of joining.
It may be recalled that in the last week of November 2020, about 49 percent of workers and 70pc of officers were retrenched under which 4,544 people were rendered unemployed.
