Second virus wave claims 34 more lives in Pakistan

The upward trend in new coronavirus cases, as well as virus-related deaths, continues in Pakistan as the country Monday reported 2,756 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours (Sunday), the latest data from the National Command and Control (NCOC) shows.

There were 34 more causalities related to the deadly disease as death toll due to coronavirus has reached 7,696 that represents a ratio of 2%.

According to the latest figures, 2,756 new coronavirus cases emerged in the last 24 hours after conducting 36929 tests. It takes the total cases tally to 330,885 that returned positive after conducting 5,216,955 total tests so far.

The number of active cases in the country reached 38,348 with 1,677 patient in critical condition. There are 2,155 virus patients admitted to the hospitals for the treatment while 267 patients are on the ventilators.

There were 1,057 more recoveries recorded in the last 24 hours as the number of total recovered cases reached 330,885 with an 87.8% recovery rate.

Punjab, the most populous province of the country, has reported 495 new cases in last 24 hours taking the provincial tally to 114,508 with 13,628 active cases. The province reported 13 new virus-related death as death toll reached 2,861. With 28 new recoveries, 98,019 patients have recovered from the virus in Punjab so far.

The most affected province Sindh has once again recorded 1,102 new cases during the last 24 hours taking the provincial tally to 163,329 with 14,492 active cases. The province reported 13 new deaths as the death toll reached 2,829. With 483 new recoveries, 146,008 patients have recovered from the virus in the province so far.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recorded 502 new cases during the last 24 hours taking the tally to 44,599 with 3,037 active cases. The province reported 2 new virus-related death as death toll reached 1,327. With 305 new recoveries, 40,235 patients have recovered from the virus in the province so far.

Balochistan has recorded another 66 new cases during the last 24 hours taking the tally to 16,810 with 618 active cases. The province reported no new virus-related death as the death toll remains at 161. With 41 new recoveries, 16,031 patients have recovered from the virus in the province so far.

Islamabad has recorded 449 new cases during the last 24 hours taking the tally to 27,018 with 4,933 active cases. One new death was reported in the Federal Capital as the virus death toll reached 279. With 94 new recoveries, the number of recovered patients is 21,806 in the federal capital so far.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir has recorded 123 new cases during the last 24 hours taking the tally to 6,123 with 1,481 active cases. With 4 new deaths reported, the death toll reached at 144. There were 88 new recoveries in the AJK as 4,498 patients have recovered so far from the virus.

Gilgit-Baltistan has recorded 16 new cases during the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 4,542 with 159 active cases. With 1 new death reported in the province, the death toll reached at 95. There were 18 new recoveries as patients recovered from the deadly disease remained at 4,288.
