Deadly virus hits camel population in Sadiqabad

A dangerous viral disease has struck camels in the Kot Sabzal area of Sadiqabad, causing widespread panic among herders as the infection continues to spread rapidly, 24NewsHD TV reported on Sunday. 

According to local sources, at least ten camels had died, while dozens more had fallen severely ill over the past few days.

Owners said the outbreak was worsening daily, claiming that the Livestock Department had been slow to respond despite repeated appeals.

They reported that the disease began with cold-like symptoms, followed by high fever, after which the camel became unconscious and eventually died.

Many herders described the situation as devastating, saying they were helplessly watching camels worth hundreds of thousands of rupees die in front of them, even after attempting private treatment.

However, officials from the Livestock Department stated that their teams had now reached the affected areas and had begun providing medical support.

According to the department, the illness resembled a severe flu-like infection that causes nasal blockage and respiratory issues in camels.

They added that a similar outbreak was reported in the Cholistan region in 2010.
