Netherland’s Eindhoven Airport closed after multiple drone sightings

Air traffic at Eindhoven airport in the south of the Netherlands was suspended for several hours after several drones were sighted on Saturday evening, Dutch defence minister Ruben Brekelmans said.

According to a report, the Dutch military on Friday evening had used weapons against drones sighted above the air force base in Volkel, which is situated some 40 kilometers (25 miles) northeast of Eindhoven.

The defence ministry had no additional comment to make when asked if it was clear where the drones had come from.

It is worth-mentioning here that drones and other airspace incursions have caused considerable disruptions across Europe in recent months.

In September, more than 20 Russian drones were sighted over Poland and three Russian military jets violated Estonia's airspace for 12 minutes.
