Sajal Aly, Ahad Raza Mir, Mawra Hocane return as Aangan comes back
Fans of Pakistani period dramas have a reason to get excited as Aangan, the beloved period drama, is set to return, bringing Sajal Aly, Ahad Raza Mir and Mawra Hocane back into the spotlight. The drama’s return has sparked fresh interest in the star-studded series, giving viewers another chance to revisit its romance, memorable characters and powerful story.
HUM TV made the announcement through its official Instagram account with the caption, “Mohabbaton ki woh kahani, jo kabhi bhulayi naa ja saki... Ek baar phir,” followed by “AANGAN - Coming Soon on HUM TV.” The post was also shared in collaboration with actor Ahsan Khan, who played a dual role in the drama.
The caption translates to, “That story of love, which could never be forgotten... Once again.” With the words “Ek baar phir,” the channel has confirmed that Aangan is returning to HUM TV, bringing its period setting and large ensemble cast back to the screen.
Based on Khadija Mastoor’s acclaimed novel Aangan, the drama was adapted for television by Mustafa Afridi and directed by Mohammed Ehteshamuddin. It originally aired on HUM TV from December 2018 to June 2019 and was set against the backdrop of the social and political changes surrounding the Partition era.
The story follows Aaliya, played by Mawra Hocane, as she navigates family relationships, love and the changing world around her. Alongside Mawra, the drama featured Ahad Raza Mir, Sajal Aly, Ahsan Khan, Hira Mani, Sonya Hussyn, the late Abid Ali, Zaib Rehman, Omair Rana, Madiha Rizvi, Shehroz Sabzwari, Rabia Butt, Uzma Baig and Hassan Noman.
Mawra Hocane portrayed Aaliya, one of the central characters in the story. Her character's journey forms an important part of the drama as the family faces personal conflicts and the wider changes taking place around them.
Ahad Raza Mir played Jameel, while Sajal Aly appeared as Chammi. Their characters became an important part of the drama’s romantic storyline, with the period setting adding a distinctive feel to their on-screen relationship.
Ahsan Khan took on a dual role in Aangan, playing Subhan and his son Safdar. His presence was another major part of the drama’s ensemble, which brought together several leading names from Pakistan’s television industry.
The cast also included Hira Mani as Tehmina and Sonya Hussyn as Salma, while Abid Ali played Muzaffar. Zaib Rehman appeared as Khameera Illahi, Omair Rana played Mazhar and Madiha Rizvi portrayed Aaliya’s mother.
Shehroz Sabzwari, Rabia Butt, Uzma Baig and Hassan Noman were also part of the extensive cast, adding further characters to the family and social setting of the period drama.
Aangan attracted attention for its period setting, costumes and large-scale ensemble. The drama also featured the late veteran actor Abid Ali, giving audiences another opportunity to see his work on screen when the series returns.
The HUM TV announcement has now brought the drama back into discussion, particularly among viewers who followed its original run and those who may not have watched the series when it first aired.
