Lahore sees flour price goes up by Rs15.66 per kg

A new storm of inflation hit Punjab’s provincial capital in the holy month of Ramazan as the price of wheat flour has been increased by Rs15.66 per kilogram and reached Rs58.68 per kg in the open market after the Punjab government has reduced flour packing from 20kg bag to 15kg bag, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

The price of flour has been increased to Rs2,347 per mound in the open market after a whooping increase of Rs647.

The TV channel quoting citizens on the new and revised rate list of flour per kg reported that the poor masses decried the move and urged authorities to take pro-people measures.

Weekly inflation for the combined group in the period ended on April 22 slightly fell by 0.40 percent on the back of a decline in prices of essential food items, data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) showed on Friday. 

The week-on-week decline in inflation was noticed after increase for two consecutive weeks.

The PBS calculates the Sensitive Price Index (SPI) based on the prices of 51 essential items from 50 markets across 17 cities of the country.

For the lowest income group earning below Rs17,732 per month for the group earning above Rs44,175, the SPI recorded a dip of 0.41pc.
