Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin took oath as a senator Friday in the Upper House of the Parliament, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani administered the oath to newly-elected senator. Tarin has been elected senator from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa seat that was vacated by PTI leader Muhammad Ayub Afridi.

Tarin is expected to become federal minister for finance and revenue once again.

Last month, Ayub Afridi resigned as senator as the government wanted to get Tarin elected to the Senate on his seat.

Shaukat Tarin was appointed as the finance minister on April 17 and his constitutional tenure ended on October 16 after which he was appointed as the finance adviser to the PM.

According to the Constitution, in order to continue as the finance minister for longer than six months, Tarin needed to become a member of the parliament.

He has also served as Finance Minister of Pakistan from 2008 to 2010 in Yousaf Raza Gilani’s cabinet.
