Whether Maryam Nawaz is happy or unhappy at Hamza Shehbaz’s release from jail on bail, the development has triggered a new debate in the country.
Maryam, who holds the office of the vice president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has apparently said that Hamza’s release would add to her strength. However, she has also warned the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against summoning her, saying that appearance before the NAB would prove the last nail in the coffin of the accountability watchdog. The question being raised is this: If Hamza has been released on bail, then whose turn it is to land in the jail?
Senior political analyst Iftikhar Ahmad has said that Maryam does not look perturbed at Hamza’s release. And about Hamza’s release, Iftikhar says he had to be released in any case.
TV anchor Asma Sherazi has said that apparently the government, not Maryam, appears to be perturbed at Hamza’s release.
Special Assistant to Punjab Chief Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan has said now there will be a match between Hamza and Maryam.
