Punjab s Rs2,528 billion budget approved

The Punjab's Rs2,528 billion budget for the fiscal year of 2021-22 has been approved, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Thursday. The opposition presented a total of 40 cut motions and all of these were rejected.
The Punjab Assembly met with Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi in the chair. The session started eight minute behind the schedule.
The speaker greeted the chief minister of Punjab, Usman Buzdar, on the budget approval. During discussions on cut motions, former education minister Rana Mashhud came down hard on the PTI, calling it an 'education enemy government'.
However, Punjab Education Minister Murad Raas blamed the last government for deliberately ignoring the sector to ruin future generation so that the corruption of previous government could not be exposed and they could be able to prolong their rule.
He said the PTI government has been taking steps to better the education sector and the party will purge the corruption out of the state in its term. Another government minister Raja Yasir too criticised the last government for ignoring the higher education sector.
Earlier, in the ongoing month, the speaker listed the feats of last parliamentary years and said 40 committees were empowered to bring in betterment. Punjab Assembly performed outstanding while dealing with the difficulties during coronavirus outbreak, he said adding that it is the first assembly in the country that made laws and made by-laws for Assembly Secretariat Employees.
He also greeted CM Buzdar on budget session in the new building of the Punjab Assembly. The foundation stone of the new building of the Punjab Assembly was laid on June 27, 2006 by Parvez Elahi when he was chief minister.
