India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday announced a nationwide lockdown for 21 days.
"The coming 21 days are very important for us. According to health experts, at least 21 days time is very important to break the coronavirus infection cycle," he said.
Announcing a nationwide lockdown PM Modi said, "From midnight, entire India will go under lockdown. This is like a curfew...this is more advanced than Janta Curfew...it is stricter than Janta Curfew."
Beginning his address, PM Modi said, "On March 22, we took the resolve to follow the Janta Curfew. The entire nation contributed to making this a success with full sensitivity and responsibility."
"In the one day of Janta Curfew, India showed that when a crisis befalls the country and humanity, all Indians unite and fight it together," PM Modi said.
He added: "Certainly, the country will have to bear the economic cost of this lockdown. But every government's priority is to save the life of every Indian at this time," PM Modi said.
