Govt assures stable fuel supply in Pakistan amid global oil price fluctuations

A high-level meeting of the Petroleum Monitoring Committee, chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, on Tuesday reviewed the country’s petroleum supply situation and expressed confidence in the stability of fuel availability despite ongoing volatility in global oil markets.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance, the meeting conducted a comprehensive assessment of the supply and demand of petroleum products across the country. Officials briefed participants on recent fluctuations in international oil prices and their potential impact on domestic markets.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to closely monitor the petroleum sector, emphasising that Pakistan currently holds ample reserves of petrol and diesel. Authorities noted that supply and stock levels remain fully stable nationwide, with no immediate risk of disruption.

“The reserves of crude oil and refined petroleum products are at a satisfactory level,” the Finance Ministry stated, adding that there is no likelihood of supply shortages in the coming weeks due to existing import agreements.

Officials revealed that a significant consignment of petrol has already been secured for March and April, with additional shipments expected to arrive soon. These imports are anticipated to further strengthen national reserves and ensure uninterrupted fuel availability.

The meeting also reviewed the country’s logistics and distribution mechanisms. Authorities confirmed that the delivery system—from ports to refineries and retail outlets—is functioning smoothly without any bottlenecks.

On the global front, the committee undertook a detailed analysis of oil price trends in international markets. The government announced that it would continue to monitor the gap between global and local petroleum prices, with policy formulation underway to address potential adjustments in domestic fuel rates.

In terms of refining capacity, domestic refineries were reported to be operating normally. The government has directed refineries to maintain full production capacity, underscoring that uninterrupted output is essential for ensuring energy security and economic stability.

Additionally, officials highlighted that Pakistan is implementing a diversified strategy for purchasing oil from multiple countries, aimed at minimising risks associated with market volatility. Efforts are also ongoing to enhance storage capacity and improve the overall supply chain infrastructure.

The meeting concluded with a strong assurance from the government that all necessary measures are being taken to maintain a stable and reliable petroleum supply, safeguarding consumers from potential disruptions amid uncertain global energy trends.
