Army leads controlled operations in locust-hit areas

Pakistan Army, Agriculture Department and Food Security Department have launched a countrywide joint operation again the locusts attacks.
The joint teams are conducting surveys and initiating controlled operations in affected areas in a number of districts around the country, said a statement issued by the National Locust Control Centre on Sunday.
As many as 1,137 combined teams of Army, Agriculture and Food Departments are taking part in this campaign in 46 affected districts of the country.
So far, these teams have conducted survey of 212,802 square kilometers whereas controlled operations were conducted on 4,639 square kilometers.
These operations were continued even during the Eid holidays and during the last 24 hours 3,332 square kilometers were surveyed and controlled operations were conducted on 65 square kilometers in which 5,853 litres of pesticides were used.
Till now, controlled operations were carried out on 2,608 square kilometers in Balochistan, 1,443 in Punjab, 346 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 242 square kilometers in Sindh.
Aerial spray with the help of aircraft and helicopters were also being conducted to kill the locusts during the controlled operations.
