Shehbaz invites PPP, ANP to rejoin PDM
Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif Monday invited the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Awami National Party (ANP) to rejoin the opposition’s grand alliance – the Pakistan Democratic Movement.
According to 24NewsHD TV Channel, Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif hosted a dinner for the parliamentary leadership of the opposition parties at his residence on Monday.
He especially invited PPP’s Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to the dinner but Bilawal Bhutto did not turn up at the event. PPP leaders including former premier Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Yousuf Raza Gilani, and Sherry Rehman joined the dinner.
PDM President Fazlur Rehman did also not join the dinner but his party team comprising Maulana Asad Mehmood and Akhtar Ali participated attended the dinner. The PPP and the ANP delegates participating in the dinner told Shehbaz Sharif that they would respond to his offer to rejoin the PDM for a joint struggle against the ruling PTI.
Shehbaz Sharif, Yousuf Raza Gilani, and Asad Mehmood addressed the gathering. The opposition leader said the economic situation of the country was not good as the PTI government had failed miserably in every field.
Stressing the need for unity, Shehbaz Sharif said all opposition parties must work together against the government for the national interest. He suggested giving tough time to the government in the budget session. The PML-N president said that Imran Khan’s government was victimising the opposition in the name of accountability and justice.
PPP-backed Yousuf Raza Gilani while addressing the parliamentary gathering of the opposition said that opposition should highlight government failures instead of accusations against each other. He conveyed a message of good wishes from Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and said that the opposition should be united to send the rulers home.
Asad Mahmood said there was a need to start a protest campaign from the PDM platform. The opposition leadership was entertained in the dinner with different kinds of delicious dishes of meat, rice, and sweat. Earlier, the organizers banned the media for covering the event just to avoid exposing inside differences that emerged after quitting the PPP and ANP from the alliance.
