Snowfall, rain bring more chill in upper Pakistan, Murree

Intermittent rain and snowfall in hill station Murree have turned the weather cold amid the harsh conditions as tourists have also been confined to hotel rooms that are in the hill stations, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department said a westerly is affecting western and upper parts of the county while cloudy weather remained in most parts of the country.

However, rain (snowfall over hills) also recorded in some parts of Islamabad, Punjab, Upper Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir, Pakistan Meteorological Department said.

National Agromet Center Islamabad Director Dr Khalid Mahmood Malik said hazardous smog will decrease with the rain in the country that will also increase visibility. “The good spell of rains will again hit the country in mid of December,” he added.

Rains also continued to intensify in the suburbs of Abbottabad city as the Abbottabad Galyat city has been receiving snow for the last 36 hours, the TV channel reported. Abbottabad snowfall has also closed Murree Road.

Rain in plains and snowfall in upper areas continued for the second day as in Shangla, police and locals were also trying to ease the flow of traffic by assisting vehicles at Shangla Top and Ikh Tange.

The chill weather has skyrocketed demand for roadside food stalls and warm clothes sales, the TV channel reported.

Intermittent rain continued for the second day in different areas including Mingora Swat while snowfall in Kalam, Malam Jabba, Madinah, Bahrain, Gabral and Asho.

The mercury went down to -7 while the maximum temperature recorded is 5 degrees Celsius, the Meteorological Department said.

Snowfall (Inches): Kalam 04 Inch, Astore Inch 3.2, Bagrote Inch 0.6 and Murree 0.5 Inch.
