Tennis legend Aisam-ul-Haq bids farewell to international tennis

Pakistan’s legendary tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi has formally announced his retirement from international tennis, drawing the curtain on a remarkable career that spanned over two decades,24NewsHD TV reported on Monday. 

The announcement was made during an emotional farewell ceremony attended by players, mentors, officials and international guests.

During the event, Aisam shared heartfelt reflections on his journey, recounting the early struggles he faced in his pursuit of professional tennis.

He revealed that his longtime coach, Haseeb Asla,m initially refused to train him.

“It was only because of my mother’s insistence that he finally agreed,” Aisam recalled, paying tribute to his parents. “My parents were my real strength—their belief, sacrifice,s and constant encouragement made me who I am today.”

Aisam expressed deep gratitude to all his coaches, mentors and fellow players who helped polish his talent and support his rise on the global stage.

He also thanked Pakistani sports journalists for consistently highlighting his performances and recognising him as a future star long before he made his mark.

The ceremony also featured a major announcement: the launch of Pakistan’s first officially recognised ATP Challenger event, the ATP Challenger Cup. Fittingly, this tournament will be the final professional event of Aisam-ul-Haq’s career, where he will compete in doubles alongside Muzammil Murtaza.

Swedish tennis player Elias Ymer, participating in the tournament, praised Pakistan’s hospitality and beauty.
