Azma Bokhari, a member of the Punjab Assembly associated with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), on Saturday tweeted a video of her party leader Maryam Nawaz’s hotel room in Quetta.
In the video, Azma says that PML-N leaders have arrived in Quetta, where the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), an alliance of 11 political parties trying to topple the federal government led by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is scheduled to hold a public meeting on Sunday (October 25). She said that Maryam received a very warm welcome in Quetta.
Showing Maryam’s hotel room, Azma expressed the hope that its lock would remain intact and the inspector general of the Balochistan Police would not have to go on leave.
Last Monday (October 19), police had raided the hotel room in Karachi where PML-N Vice President Maryam was staying and arrested her husband Captain (Retired) Muhammad Safdar for violating security protocols during his visit to the mausoleum of father of the nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah a day earlier.
There were reports that police had arrested Safdar under pressure from the intelligence agencies. Against this backdrop, Inspector General of Sindh Police Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar had announced he would go on leave in protest against this interference in the police matters.
At the same time, Azma warned that no one should even dare to go towards Maryam’s room because Maryam’s political workers were alert now. “If anyone is fond of an adventure, they can come. We are here,” Azma said.
