PPP dominates Karachi local bodies by-elections

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) secured a majority of seats in the Karachi local bodies by-elections, while Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) managed to claim an important victory in Orangi, rported 24NewsHD TV channel Wednesday.

According to unofficial results, PPP’s Shahroz Brohi Ahmed won the vice-chairman seat in East Sohrab Goth UC-8, securing 1,790 votes out of 2,060 cast. Independent candidate Jalil Ahmed finished second with 166 votes.

In West Orangi UC-7, JI’s Bilal Nasir clinched the General Ward seat with 791 votes, narrowly defeating PPP’s Shoaib Azhar, who polled 749 votes. A total of 1,547 votes were cast in this constituency.

The PPP further strengthened its position with back-to-back wins across Karachi. In Kemari Municipality UC-8, PPP’s Faisal Musa captured the vice-chairman seat with 3,132 votes, while PTI-backed independent Hasnain Ali Chohan secured 1,084 votes and JI’s Yasir Hayat managed 796. A total of 6,052 votes were cast in this constituency.

In West District TMC Manghopir UC-10, PPP’s Stephen Masih emerged victorious as vice-chairman with 891 votes out of 1,993 cast. ANP’s Ehsanullah followed with 324 votes, while PTI’s independent Abid Khan got 299.

Meanwhile, in West District TMC Orangi UC-1, PPP’s Shahneela Amir won the chairman seat with 3,801 votes out of 7,587 cast. TLP candidate Muhammad Ali secured second place with 1,787 votes, while JI’s Muhammad Khurshid Alam came third with 1,288 votes.
